Hotel Resorts Near Disney World
With So Many Disney Resorts To Choose From, You Can't Choose A Bad One
During the 35 years since the opening of the first units outside of Orlando, Hotel resorts near Disney world have kept pace with the growing number of tourists who come to sample the thrills, adventure and fun of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Wild Animal Park and Disney-MGM Studios.
When Disney first contemplated purchasing land for a new theme park, one of the prerequisites was that the site would include enough land to incorporate all of the Disney resorts hotels on-campus. Building of the early resorts was accomplished in order to have them available for the opening of the park in 1971.
Hotel resorts are in several categories. First are the on-site resorts which are owned by Disney and are themed hotels. These themes range from Polynesian Islands to New Orleans jazz and from African safari to All-Star Music. A total of seventeen Disney themed hotels are located on the property and owned by Disney.
In addition, five Disney Vacation Club resorts are located on the property, including Disney’s Beach Club Villas, The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Boardwalk Villas, Disney’s Sarasota Springs Resort and Spa, and Disney’s Old Key West Resort. This is a vacation ownership plan.
Also on site at Walt Disney World are ten non-Disney operated resort facilities. These include the Swan and Dolphin, Shades of Green and Royal Plaza among others.
In addition to the Disney World sites for hotels, most if not all of the major hotel chains of the world have one or more sites in the Orlando area. Some concentrate on proximity to the Disney theme parks, while others are close to one or more of the other tourist attractions such as Sea World or Universal Studios. For visitors to Orlando who are there for other reasons, perhaps a hotel resort nearer to the airport is more appropriate.
Most hotels in the area know, however that the theme parks are the drawing card for millions of visitors each year and plan their amenities around the parks. These perks may take the form of discounted or free tickets to the attractions, transportation, or food discounts at local restaurants. Many visitors take advantage of one or more of the quality golf courses in the area of Orlando.
Rates are a significant concern to most people who come to Orlando for a vacation. Generally the higher priced resorts are those nearest to the heart of the Magic Kingdom, but good deals can be made by taking advantage of vacation clubs, group discounts, air travel and lodging packages and other discounts. Don’t forget that often the on-site resorts, although usually more expensive, may also have some perks thrown into the mix that you could not get otherwise. For example, many of the on-site guests choose to take advantage of the E-nights at the theme parks. These are additional open hours of the park only available to those guests. There is a special magic about being able to enjoy the attractions with reduced number of people about. The characters are still there and food service establishments remain open and available for an additional three hours after official closing times.
